Today I am going to share a few of my favorite digital art portraits that I created. I wanted to showcase the skills I've cultivated throughout the years making original pieces. A lot of them are abstract fractals. I do a lot of different subjects with digital art and these are the few that I thought turned out kinda cool.
So, a few years ago I decided to start learning the acoustic guitar. As a teen I was involved in my school's orchestra, and although violin wasn't really my thing, I did enjoy being able to play music. I decided to start playing the acoustic guitar because I was part of a belly dance troupe (Dance Caravan of Otsego) and we performed to live drums. I thought it would be a great idea to learn this new skill so I could contribute some melodious sounds to the drumming. It's a few years later, and here I am taking a stab at making my own music!
I'm super interested in covering classic rock songs, making my own country/blue grass songs and also creating acoustic ambient music. With the holidays coming up, I was inspired to create some of my own ambient Thanksgiving sounds. Some of them have singing/lyrics and others are just the guitar with nature backgrounds. Either way, I'm having fun!
Daylight Savings was created using an EM, G and D. I did some finger picking and scales and a little bit of Renaissance style of plucking the base E note with another note. It's largely experimental but I truly enjoy what I came up with. When I was creating it, there was a heavy fog and rain outside, we'd turned the clocks back and the temperature had dipped into the chilly forties. It put me in a moody mood and this was what started coming out from my soul. It sounds a bit how November feels. Everyone is slowing down a little bit, we snuggle into bed a little earlier, eat a bit more than we should and just feel a little a dreary inside. Or maybe that's just me. :)
Seaside Autumn is me using G and D in a finger picking pattern and also scales. It's a happy tune that just reminds me of a busy morning, when the sun is shining and it's beautiful outside because you're on the beach in California! So, yeah it is inspired by our morning walks by the ocean when we were on vacation and just having a blast playing in the water.
Crows of November was created using an AM arpeggio, strum and fingerpicking. I came up with the lyrics while imagining a peasant woman from the past, like the 1700's or something, busying herself with afternoon chores and preparing to make the upcoming feast for the colony. I wanted it to sound serious and somber with happy lyrics that give a nod towards all the great things in life like eating, sitting by the fire, dealing with your children, and enjoying nature.
Finally, Gather Round Ye Children is a track about enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday with your family. Merry making around the table, young and old sitting together for laughter and lessons, connecting with relations we haven't seen in awhile, eating fabulous food, praying for the coming year....that's the vibe of this one. :)
I do have a few others that are "works in progress" that I intend to get out this year before the holiday but we'll see! I'm also moving on the Christmas/Yuletide music. So, yippee for that.
Today, I wanted to share my love of the fae with you. I remember when I was little, my mother would read to me fairy tales and nursery rhymes out of the beautifully illustrated "Mother Goose" books. I think my love for fairies (and mermaids) started as a result.
As a young adult, I took as many art classes as I could for electives. I've been teaching myself to paint ever since. I use acrylics, and water color but I have used oil as well. (I think oil is rather messy and you need turpentine to clean brushes so I prefer water color or acrylic.) I also do use mixed media and computer illustration software along with my hand drawn and hand painted art. I think it just brings it to the next level!
Here are a few of my creations that feature one of my favorite subjects:fairies! I know that I am not the only one that loves the lore of fae, and the different realms that they inhabit with elves, dwarves, gnomes, and goblins...so I appreciate anyone that wants to nerd out these things with me.
I think it's important to share our art with the world, even if we face ridicule and even if people don't like it. I know that I enjoy so many different ways of creating, whether computer generated or hand painted. I do a mixture of both because I think both mediums have value. However, I think there's something special about the imperfection of human created art without the aid of computers. The little charming idiosyncrasies, the scale that may not be exactly right, the way something wasn't perfectly blended...all of these things can make the final product a masterpiece. Because it's real. I will never be able to paint as lovely as Monet, or Rembrandt, or Da Vinci but it isn't about being the best. It's about losing myself for hours in something I enjoy and encouraging others to do the same.
Here's a collection of my favorites over the years! Thanks so much for visiting my little corner of world.
My
name is Marissa. Welcome to my lifestyle blog! This is going to be a
place for me to share what I am passionate about. For me, life is about
creating beautiful things and surrounding myself with fun, eclectic
diversions of the mind.
Ever
since I was a kid, I've been interested in a plethora of artistic
pursuits:writing, painting, drawing, music, photography, costume
creation, interior design...anything that allowed me to create. This is
going to be a place where I can showcase my illustrations, original
music, novels, costume creations, refinished furniture and anything else
I find interesting.
I
hope to inspire you with my ideas! I do plan on doing tutorials as well
as sharing my life with you. Some days I will post music, other days I
will post art, and still other days it might be fashion, or lifestyle
photography. Anything I find beauty and joy in! :)
Thank you so much for visiting my little corner of the world.
